US Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation for Naval Attack
US Central Command has confirmed that US forces struck three Iranian oil tankers on Saturday, including one off the coast of Kharg Island. The strikes were in response to an attack by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on two US Navy ships.
'Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost, taking out three of yours,' said Admiral Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command.
The exchange of attacks has escalated a conflict that began in February when the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran. The disruption to global energy supplies and opposition from a majority of Americans have been significant concerns.
