US Surpasses Global Oil Output with Record 13.6 Million Barrels Per Day
The United States has become the world's largest oil producer in 2025, surpassing any other country's annual output. According to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, America produced a record 13.6 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil, up 3% from the previous year.
Texas led the way with 42.3% of national production at 5.75 million bpd, followed closely by New Mexico with 16.5% and 2.24 million bpd. The Permian Basin, spanning West Texas and southeastern New Mexico, accounted for 48% of all U.S. crude output in 2025.
The Gulf Coast region produced nearly three-quarters of the country's crude oil at 73.7%, with the East Coast producing a mere 0.4%. The concentration of production is relatively recent, having nearly tripled since 2008 when America produced about 5 million bpd.
