US Synthetic Motor Oil Prices Soar Amid Global Crude Price Hikes
Rising global crude prices and supply chain disruptions in the Middle East have led to a significant increase in synthetic motor oil prices across the United States. Prices have soared by 20% to 30%, forcing retailers like Costco to limit customer purchases and raise shelf prices.
The shortage primarily affects low-viscosity synthetic oils such as 0W-8 and 0W-16, which are critical for newer fuel-efficient engines and hybrid vehicles. Ongoing conflicts near key maritime routes have constrained base-oil refining capacity, directly affecting auto repair shops and individual drivers.
Karl Brauer, executive analyst at iSeeCars, noted that specialized vehicles face higher risks from missing routine maintenance. He advised against panic buying while encouraging drivers to prepare early for scheduled maintenance.
