US Targets Five Iranian Oil Tankers in Escalating Middle East Conflict
The US military has launched airstrikes on five Iranian oil tankers in response to escalating tensions between the two nations. The strikes targeted vessels linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, with four located in the Gulf of Oman and one near Kharg Island.
Central Command issued a warning to crews beforehand, telling them to abandon ship, but it is unclear if anyone was still on board. The tankers were destroyed, leaving them in flames after missiles struck their aft parts.
The US military's actions come amid rising tensions with Iran, which has been accused of attacking a Navy vessel over the past two days. In response to these attacks, Central Command said they issued a warning and targeted the vessels to disrupt Iranian oil exports.
