The US government has announced 'Operation Economic Outcast', a new strategy aimed at isolating Iran economically by targeting countries and entities that cooperate with the Iranian regime. This initiative represents a shift in American strategy as the war between the US and Iran approaches its six-month mark.

According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the objective of Operation Economic Outcast is 'to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone.' This expansion of secondary sanctions will affect countries, companies, and entities that engage in business with Iran, including those involved in oil exports, shipping, exchange houses, and banks facilitating Iranian transactions.

The US is also warning other countries to cease their economic relationships with Iran, with Mr Bessent stating that those who refuse will 'share in the isolation of a withering regime.' Five specific sectors of the Iranian economy have been identified as targets for sanctions: digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping.
