Interior Secretary Doug Bergum emphasized that President Trump's policies are a reversal of his predecessor Joe Biden, who had promoted renewable energies and addressed climate change.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief Lee Zeldin accused Biden of participating in 'climate alarmism'. The EPA announced a reduction in pollution limits from gas- and coal-fired power plants to meet growing demand for electricity driven by the AI industry. This move was met with criticism from environmentalists.
The US is banking on domestic production, particularly oil reserves in Venezuela, which it has gained control of following Trump's actions against President Nicolas Maduro in January. Analyst John Kilduff noted that a world without Middle Eastern oil would be 'like a band without a drummer' and warned that the war's impact on supply cannot be made up anytime soon.
White House energy adviser Jarrod Agen emphasized the goal of making the Western Hemisphere the center of affordable, reliable, and secure energy. Kenneth Medlock III from the Baker Institute at Rice University cautioned that Venezuela is not a short-term fix and warned of potential supply constraints, which could lead to a 'brutal' winter in Europe.
