USCC Seeks Action on Brazilian Ethanol Trade Barriers

The US Chamber of Commerce (USCC) is calling on the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to take action against Brazil's unfair treatment of U.S. ethanol producers.

In 2025, the United States imported $145 million worth of ethanol from Brazil, while exporting only $97 million to that market.

This trade imbalance is exacerbated by non-tariff barriers, including Brazil's programs RenovaBio and RenovaCalc, which have become obstacles for U.S. producers seeking access to Brazilian markets.

The USCC argues that these programs unfairly inflate the carbon score of U.S. corn ethanol, imposing a 300% penalty that limits access to CBio carbon credits.
