USDA Boosts Regen Ag Investment Amid Farm Profitability Concerns
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins emphasized the importance of farm profitability during her recent appearances at the White House and the Make America Healthy Again summit. She expressed concern that farmers are not able to sell their goods in the marketplace, but instead rely on government support.
Rollins noted that the Trump administration inherited a $50 billion agricultural trade deficit, which has been cut in half through 22 negotiated trade deals. China is making additional purchases of US agricultural products, and exports are expected to reach record levels this year for items such as dairy, tree nuts, and corn.
In related news, the USDA has increased its investment in regenerative pilot programs from $700 million to $1 billion for the 2027 fiscal year. Enhancements will be made to the Environmental Quality Incentives Program and the Conservation Stewardship Program to support regenerative agriculture.
