USDA Corn Carryout Cut to 1.567 Billion Bushels: Tighter Market Ahead
The USDA's recent crop report has significantly impacted the corn market for the 2026-27 marketing year. The projected U.S. corn carryout for this period is now at 1.567 billion bushels, a significant decrease from previous estimates.
This reduction in supply is due to the lower projected yield of 178.5 bushels per acre, which is down from 180.7 bushels in August. Production is estimated at approximately 15.8 billion bushels, more than 200 million bushels below the previous projection and about 7.2% below the record crop harvested in 2025.
The real story behind these numbers lies in their impact on demand. The balance sheet now looks different, with a tighter supply cushion affecting every additional change in yield, exports, ethanol demand, or livestock feeding.
