USDA Hog Report Shows Mixed Purchase Volumes and Pricing in Hog Market

The USDA released its Daily Direct Prior Day Hog Report on September 15, 2026. The report covers barrows and gilts on both live and carcass bases, with volumes broken out by purchase type.

Negotiated purchases of producer-sold hogs totaled 6,032 head, up from 2,157 the prior day but below 7,297 a week earlier. Other market formula purchases reached 18,745 head, compared to 19,644 the prior day and 19,609 a year ago.

The plant delivered purchase data for September 14 showed producer-sold barrows and gilts on a carcass basis totaling 208,717 head. Negotiated carcass purchases of barrows and gilts had a national head count of 4,390 with a lowest base price of $74.00 and a highest base price of $86.00.

The national weighted average price for negotiated carcass purchases was $83.61, down from the previous day's price. The five-day rolling averages were 86.01 nationally, 86.19 for Iowa and Minnesota, and 85.44 for the Eastern Cornbelt.
