Uzbekistan Eyes Discounted Electricity Tariffs for Gas-Free Neighborhoods

Uzbekistan is considering introducing discounted electricity tariffs for residents in neighborhoods without access to natural gas. According to Energy Minister Sherzod Khodjayev, nearly 2,000 neighborhoods across the country currently remain outside the centralized natural gas supply system.

The proposal follows a video conference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on July 27, during which officials were instructed to assess the infrastructure and additional generating capacity needed to switch heating systems to electricity in these areas.

Under the new initiative, households that rely on electricity for heating due to the absence of natural gas will be entitled to a discount. Officials have been given three months to calculate the required infrastructure upgrades and additional electricity capacity.
