Uzbekistan Unveils Plan for Region-Specific Electricity Tariffs

The government of Uzbekistan is working on a new tariff system for electricity that will take into account the characteristics of different regions and their energy resource supply. According to Sherzod Khodjayev, Minister of Energy, this system will differentiate electricity tariffs for residents living in areas where natural gas is not available.

Currently, nearly 2,000 neighborhoods in Uzbekistan do not have access to natural gas, forcing residents to use electricity for heating instead. However, they are paying according to the current tariffs, which may be unfair. The new system will consider factors such as multi-story and individual houses, as well as the level of gas and other energy resource supply.

The initiative was proposed earlier by former Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, who announced that a draft resolution on this matter was being developed. The new system is expected to be implemented in the future, although no specific date has been given yet.
