VA Sweet Corn Harvest Expected to Thrive Despite Drought

Sweet corn farmers in Virginia are breathing a sigh of relief as their crops seem to be recovering from the severe drought that has gripped the state for over a year. Agriculture experts predict fair to good harvests, especially for those with access to irrigation.

The current prices of sweet corn have been affected by inflation, with unhusked corn selling at two ears for a dollar in the Roanoke region - up from three ears for a dollar in previous years. Despite this, sales remain strong.

When purchasing sweet corn, look for green husks, moist brown or yellow silk, and firm plump kernels. Most of Virginia's sweet corn will be available until September.
