Valero Energy Set for Continued Profit Boost as Oil Prices Remain High
Valero Energy's refining operations are likely to remain strong due to high oil prices and constrained global refining capacity. With West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude currently trading above $90 per barrel, input costs for refiners like Valero have decreased relatively.
The company has a heavy-crude advantage, with its Gulf Coast refineries able to purchase cheaper oil from various low-cost sources, including the United States, Canada, and Venezuela. This flexibility helps keep refining costs low and can boost profits when competitors face fewer sourcing options.
Phillips 66 and Par Pacific Holdings are also likely to benefit from the favorable business environment, as they have noted that global refining capacity is constrained and fuel inventories are low. This shortage helps maintain high refining margins for refiners like Valero, Phillips 66, and Par Pacific.
