Vance Optimistic but Details Pending on Alaska LNG Project
U.S. Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism about a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Alaska, though he acknowledged that further details still need to be worked out between the United States and South Korea. Speaking on Monday, Vance highlighted strong Asian demand for American gas, noting that both South Korea and Japan are eager to see the project come to fruition.
Vance emphasized the potential benefits for East Asian economies facing higher natural gas prices, suggesting that increased supplies of U.S. gas would address this demand. 'When there's a demand for this stuff and there really is strong demand for American natural gas, I think we're going to be able to get it done,' he stated.
U.S. President Donald Trump recently announced South Korea's investment projects under last year's bilateral trade agreement, which included the Alaska LNG project, a gas-fired power plant in Texas, and eight large-scale nuclear power plants. However, South Korea's industry ministry clarified that the Alaska LNG project had not yet been finalized, noting that its commercial viability and other factors would need further review before any investment decision is made.
