Vancouver Port Sees Record Cargo Volumes Amid Grain and Oil Export Surge

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has announced that freight volumes at the Port of Vancouver have reached a record high in the first half of this year, driven by surging grain and oil exports.

In the six months ended June 30, cargo through the port rose three per cent year-over-year, with bulk grain exports increasing by 14 per cent to 17.4 million tonnes, and crude oil exports rising by three per cent to a record 12 million tonnes.

The majority of these commodities shipments were destined for East Asia, particularly Alberta crude being exported to the region, while China, Europe, and Mexico imported canola seed.
