Venezuela-Colombia Gas Pipeline to Be Repaired After 7-Year Hiatus
A gas pipeline connecting Venezuela and Colombia has been idle since 2015 and needs to be repaired, according to Luz Stella Murgas, head of Colombia's gas association Naturgas. The infrastructure is essential for reducing a natural gas deficit in Colombia, which is jeopardizing several industries.
The repair project requires a minimum investment of $66 million before exports to Colombia can begin. However, the project needs to obtain a license from the US Treasury Department before proceeding.
Sandra Conde, transport and gas director at the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), believes that the pipeline can be restored and used to solve Colombia's gas supply problem. She stated that 'The infrastructure has been sitting idle since 2015 and needs to be restored.'
