Venezuela's $4 Billion Gold Reserve Unlocked After Seven-Year Dispute
Venezuela is close to resolving a seven-year legal dispute over its $4 billion gold reserves trapped in London.
The proposed agreement would allow the interim government of Delcy Rodríguez to gain legal control of the bullion, but prevent it from immediately selling the holdings.
The 31 tonnes of gold could be used as collateral against borrowing to help finance reconstruction following June's devastating earthquakes.
The dispute has been ongoing since 2019 when Britain and other governments recognised opposition leader Juan Guaidó rather than Nicolás Maduro as Venezuela's legitimate president.
