Venture Global's CP2 LNG Costs Soar by $4 Billion
Venture Global, the second-largest LNG exporter in the U.S., has increased its construction cost estimate for two phases of its CP2 liquefied natural gas project by $4 billion. This represents a 14% jump from the previous estimate of $28 billion to $29.5 billion, with the new range now being between $32.5 billion and $33.5 billion.
The company cited design modifications, inflation, and potential tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump as contributing factors to the cost increase. Venture Global is currently constructing phase one of the 35 million metric tons per annum facility in Louisiana, where it imports modular plants from Italy for assembly.
As of December 31, 2025, the CP2 Project had 3.0 mtpa of nameplate capacity that had not yet been sold under a long-term contract, according to Venture Global's annual report.
