Vietnam Gold Prices Hold Steady Amid Global Decline on October 6
On October 6, 2026, domestic gold prices in Vietnam remained stable for the third day in a row. SJC gold bars were quoted at 143.5 million VND per tael, while gold rings were priced at 143 million VND per tael. This lack of movement in domestic prices came despite a continued decline in global gold prices, which fell to 4,125.9 USD per ounce. The drop in international gold prices was attributed to rising expectations of sustained high interest rates, which continue to support US Treasury yields.
Meanwhile, the VN-Index, which tracks the performance of Vietnam's stock market, showed a slight recovery. The index gained 5.88 points, or 0.34%, to close at 1,759.08 points during the October 6 trading session. This followed a 0.89% increase on the previous trading day, October 5.
The stability in domestic gold prices contrasts with recent volatility in global markets, where gold prices have seen fluctuations due to shifts in US dollar strength and interest rate expectations. The latest data suggests that domestic gold prices are decoupling from global trends, at least in the short term.
