Vietnam Gold Prices Plummet, Buyers Weigh Selling Amid Market Volatility
Gold prices in Vietnam have plummeted by 50 million VND from their peak, causing anxiety among buyers who are now considering selling and depositing their money into banks. According to a recent report, world gold prices continue to fall sharply, pushing SJC gold down to 140 million VND/ounce.
Many gold owners are faced with a difficult decision: sell and deposit the money in banks to earn high interest rates or wait for prices to recover while inflation and global instability persist. Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, a resident of Ha Dong, Hanoi, bought gold at prices ranging from 145-155 million VND/ounce in October-December 2025 and continued to buy more at around 170 million VND/ounce in the first half of January 2026.
At one point, gold prices exceeded 190 million VND per tael, but Mr. Tam did not sell. By the end of March, when the market reversed, he decided to sell a portion of his gold at prices above 170 million VND per tael. Currently, he is hesitant about whether to sell the remaining gold and deposit the money in the bank or continue waiting.
