Viper Energy Surges on Strong Q2 Performance, Raises Dividend by 32%
Viper Energy's Q2 2026 slides revealed a strong second quarter performance that exceeded analyst expectations. The Permian Basin-focused mineral and royalty company reported average production of 65,077 barrels of oil per day and raised its base dividend by 32% to $2.00 per Class A share annually.
The increase in the base dividend represents an approximately 4.5% annualized yield, and the total dividend yield stood at 6.0%. Viper's new capital allocation framework prioritizes steady growth of the base dividend while retaining excess cash flow for opportunistic share repurchases, debt reduction, and accretive mergers and acquisitions.
The company's production guidance for Q3 2026 calls for average oil production of 67,500 to 68,500 barrels per day, representing approximately 4.5% sequential growth from Q2 levels. Viper's cash return on capital invested (CROCI) has consistently exceeded its weighted average cost of capital (WACC) throughout commodity cycles, reaching 12.4% year-to-date in 2026 compared to a lower WACC.
