Vista Energy Sheds Over Two-Thirds of Thiel-Fueled Gains Despite Brent Surge
Vista Energy, S.A.B. de C.V., which trades on the NYSE under ticker VIST, saw its shares decline by over two-thirds of their initial Monday gains despite a 6.4% rise in Brent crude prices. The divergence between oil prices and Vista's stock performance is significant given the company's direct sensitivity to oil prices.
According to management, a $10-per-barrel movement in second-half Brent impacts adjusted EBITDA by approximately $200 million. However, shares trailed Brent's weekly performance by around 4.5 percentage points.
The initial Monday surge of $3.85 contributed an estimated $429 million, based on 111.44 million shares outstanding. By Friday, this gain had largely dissipated, leaving only about $142 million.
