Vivit Africa LNG Suffers Possible Cyberattack During Mediterranean Voyage
A liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker named Vivit Africa LNG has reportedly suffered a systems failure that may be attributed to a cyberattack, according to people familiar with the matter.
The incident occurred on September 18, when the crew was sailing east in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas toward Italy. The crew suddenly found it difficult to access some of the internal control systems, which they reported as a suspected cyber attack.
There is no confirmation yet if this incident is indeed a cyberattack or just a technical glitch. However, it is one of several potential cybersecurity incidents on tankers in recent times.
