Voters Back Trump's Iran Strategy as US Exerts Pressure on Strait
President Donald Trump stated that he believes the Iran war will end 'immediately after the election' due to their inability to hold out much longer. The U.S. has been exerting pressure on Iran through force, sanctions, and blockades, with oil exports from non-Iranian countries spiking in September. According to a Harvard CAPS-HarrisX poll, 72% of voters support using force, sanctions, and blockades to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and prevent Iranian control.
The same poll found that 79% of voters consider keeping the Strait open an important national security concern, with widespread support across party lines. Americans are largely convinced that the U.S. is winning the conflict against Iran, with 43% saying so compared to 13%. However, a full 29% say they aren't sure who is winning.
Despite the ongoing conflict and concerns about rising oil prices, voters support President Trump's strategy of using force, sanctions, and blockades. The U.S. has successfully limited Iran's oil exports, with shipments dropping from 1.85 million barrels a day this spring to just 255,000 in August.
