Wall Street Declines as Middle East Conflict Drives Up Oil Prices and Treasury Yields
Wall Street indexes declined on Thursday, September 24, as escalating conflict in the Middle East drove up oil prices and Treasury yields.
The S&P 500 fell 0.09% to 7,698.90 points, the Nasdaq declined 0.20% to 26,883.15 points, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 0.31% to 51,350.11 points.
The sharp increase in oil prices was triggered by a Houthi missile strike on Saudi Arabia, which raised global supply worries and Brent crude prices surged approximately 4% to $107 per barrel.
Market analysts noted that energy costs and inflationary pressures continue to dictate broader capital movements. Bill Northey, senior investment director at U.S. Bank Wealth Management, said 'This just reinforces the view that we're dealing with one major market catalyst right now.'
