Wall Street Edges Lower Amid Rising Oil Prices and Mixed Earnings Reports
US stocks experienced a decline on Wall Street as oil prices rose and more company earnings reports were released. The S&P 500 fell by 0.2% on Thursday, remaining just below its record reached on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 0.9%, while the Nasdaq composite declined by 0.1%. Warner Bros. Discovery saw an increase after reporting better-than-expected earnings, but Honeywell Aerospace slumped due to disappointing results that fell short of forecasts.
European markets generally rose, and Asian markets closed with mostly lower numbers. The price of Brent crude oil rose nearly 4%, while Treasury yields moved higher in the bond market.
