Wall Street Eyes Gains as Oil Prices Drop to Monthly Low

Wall Street is poised for gains in premarket trading on Tuesday, building on the previous day's record close. Futures for the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and Nasdaq each rose by 0.4% to 0.6% ahead of the opening bell. This upward momentum comes as oil prices retreat to their lowest level in over a month, easing some pressure on the broader stock market.

Oil prices dropped by about 2% early Tuesday, with Brent crude falling to $98.33 per barrel and U.S. benchmark crude slipping to $87.60 per barrel. Analysts attribute the decline to improving oil flows through key regions, though geopolitical tensions remain a concern. ING commodities strategists Warren Patterson and Ewa Manthey noted that while oil flows are recovering, market nervousness persists over potential supply disruptions.

In the bond market, U.S. Treasury yields are near multi-decade highs, with the 10-year yield easing slightly to around 5.26% after briefly hitting 5.35%. Investors are seeking higher returns amid rising inflation and a record U.S. national debt surpassing $40 trillion. The Federal Reserve's minutes from its September meeting, set to be released Wednesday, are drawing significant attention following the central bank's first interest rate hike in three years.

Internationally, European markets saw gains in midday trading, with Britain's FTSE 100 up 0.4% and France's CAC 40 and Germany's DAX each rising 0.6%. In Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 surged 1.1% to 70,683.98, surpassing 70,000 for the first time since early July. However, South Korea's Kospi dropped 0.9%, and technology-related stocks in Japan and South Korea experienced volatility.
