Wall Street Sinks Amid Soaring Bond Yields and Oil Prices
Wall Street's week came to a close on Friday with a mixed finish for U.S. stock indexes, as rising bond yields and oil prices weighed on the market.
The S&P 500 inched up 0.2% after trading between modest gains and losses throughout the day.
This marks its second consecutive weekly loss, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipping 0.2% and the Nasdaq composite adding 0.4%.
Most stocks on Wall Street fell, with higher bond yields from the 10-year Treasury contributing to their decline. The yield rose to 5% after reaching its highest level since 2023 earlier this week at 5.01%, a pace that's been accelerating due to persistent inflation.
Inflation remains above 3% and is exacerbated by rising oil prices, with Brent crude hovering around $103 per barrel. This has pushed gasoline prices up to $4.47 per gallon, while diesel costs hit a record high of $6.45 per gallon.
