Walsin Lihwa Hikes Stainless Steel Wire Rod Prices in Response to Global Pressures

Walsin Lihwa, Taiwan's leading producer of stainless steel wire rods, announced its September prices on August 28th. The company increased the price of its 304 stainless steel wire rod by NT$3,000 per ton, ending a two-month period of flat openings. Meanwhile, the price of 304 copper-containing wire rod rose by NT$4,000 per ton, while 316 wire rod saw a significant increase of NT$5,000 per ton.

The prices of 200 and 400 series stainless steel wire rods remained unchanged for the third consecutive month. Walsin Lihwa cited geopolitical factors and Indonesia's nickel ore mining restrictions as key drivers behind the price increases. The company also mentioned EU CBAM requirements, which are putting pressure on mills to reduce emissions and drive up overall production costs.

The September price adjustments reflect a balance between cost considerations and the need to maintain customers' international competitiveness. By adjusting prices accordingly, Walsin Lihwa aims to stay competitive in the market while also accounting for the rising raw material costs.
