Weakened Jobs Report Trims Odds for October Fed Hike
A disappointing US jobs report led to a decline in precious metals prices on Friday, with spot gold falling 0.83% to $4,142.00 per ounce and spot silver down 1.04% to $60.230.
The weaker employment figures reduced the probability of an October Federal Reserve rate increase, but did not eliminate it entirely, as high Treasury yields, a strong dollar, and persistent oil-market uncertainty continued to weigh on markets.
North American share benchmarks ended the day in positive territory, with the S&P 500 adding 56.27 points or 0.7% to reach 7,722.72, while European markets also bounced back after Thursday's bond-market-driven slump.
