Weaner Pig Breakeven Prices Plummet to $10.44 by March 2027
NutriQuest Business Solutions publishes weekly weaner pig profitability calculations, using industry representative production costs and futures pricing for lean hogs, corn, and soybean meal. The breakeven price for weaners purchased today would be $10.44 by March 2027, according to the latest figures. This is down $4.52 from last week's breakeven of $15.01.
The calculation takes into account historical basis assumptions and uses closing futures prices as of September 18. Feed costs increased by $0.15 per head this week, while April futures decreased by $5.05 compared to last week's prices. The 'weaner pig breakeven' is an all-in break-even considering fixed costs such as housing and labor.
For producers with empty space, the maximum price a buyer could pay for a weaner pig and still breakeven is $36.55, which represents the margin over variable costs.
