Wheat Complex Fades Amid Month-End Pressure
The wheat complex is experiencing month-end pressure as contracts close out August. Chicago SRW contracts have posted losses ranging from 3 ¾ to 10 ¼ cents, with prices 15 to 18 cents off the lows. In contrast, KC HRW futures were down 1 ½ to 7 ½ cents in the front months, while deferreds rose by 1 to 11 cents.
The recent weekly NASS Crop Progress report showed that 77% of US spring wheat has been harvested, 9% ahead of the normal pace. The Philippines was the largest destination for wheat shipments last week, receiving 131,831 MT, followed by Taiwan with 100,544 MT and Mexico with 70,756 MT.
The weekly Export Inspections report revealed that US wheat shipments totaled 430,925 MT (15.83 mbu) in the week of August 27, slightly below the previous week's total but still 46.46% lower than the same period last year. Turkey has been pushing for a Black Sea shipping corridor to help restore grain flows.
