Wheat Exports Halt Sends Prices Soaring Amid Global Shortage Fears
The suspension of wheat exports from Ukraine and Russia has led to an increase in wheat stock quotes. The Black Sea ports have been idle since July 22 for Ukraine and August 12 for Russia due to attacks on port infrastructure and civilian vessels.
Traders were reassured by the USDA's August report, which reduced forecasts for wheat exports from both countries by only 1-1.5 million tons. However, local analysts expect a significant decrease in exports from Ukraine and Russia, with predictions of a 4-5 million ton drop for Ukraine and 15-20 million tons for Russia.
The increased demand for American wheat has led to an increase in US wheat exports, which have been at 490,000 tons for two weeks in a row, up 20% from last year. However, total US wheat exports for the season are down 19.3% from the previous season.
