Wheat Futures Decline Amid Ongoing Disruptions in Black Sea Exports
Chicago wheat futures fell by 0.32% on Monday as traders weighed the potential impact of diplomatic efforts to ease disruptions to Black Sea grain exports from Russia and Ukraine, two major grain suppliers.
The most-traded wheat contract on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) dropped to $7.01 a bushel at 0140 GMT, while corn fell by 0.4% to $5.26-1/4 a bushel. Soybeans remained relatively unchanged at $13.19-1/4 a bushel.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that several countries, including India and Turkey, were participating in talks aimed at unblocking shipping in the Black Sea region.
A Reuters analysis revealed that Russia could quickly restart up to 80% of its grain terminal capacity in the Black Sea if diplomatic efforts lead to a ceasefire. Meanwhile, Ukraine's grain stocks totaled 24.6 million metric tons as of September 1, a significant increase from last year's figure of 14.6 million metric tons.
