Wheat Futures Plummet on Diplomatic Hopes, Truce Uncertainty
The price of wheat futures has fallen to its lowest level in four weeks due to diplomatic efforts aimed at easing disruptions in Black Sea exports caused by Russia's conflict with Ukraine.
A truce between Russia and Ukraine, two major grain suppliers, could lead to a recovery of cargo movement in the Black Sea, which is affecting grain shipments from both countries.
US Secretary Marco Rubio stated that both Russia and Ukraine have expressed interest in a ceasefire that would include grain and energy targets after meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
Corn and soybean futures also dropped this week, with corn falling 7.75 cents to $5.29 a bushel and soybeans falling 7.5 cents to $13.18 a bushel.
