Wheat Market Bears Emerge as Futures Contracts Decline
The wheat market is experiencing bearish sentiment on Tuesday as futures contracts for Chicago SRW and KC HRW trade lower. Contracts are down by 12 to 14 cents in Chicago SRW, while Kansas City HRW futures are down by 10 to 12 cents in the front months.
Despite this decline, the US winter wheat crop is still on track with its normal pace, according to the weekly NASS Crop Progress data. By Sunday, 86% of the crop had been harvested, matching the average pace for this time of year. The spring wheat crop, however, was ahead of schedule at 98% headed and 1% above the 5-year average pace.
The Brugler500 index rose by 6 points to 348, with ratings in Montana and South Dakota increasing significantly. However, North Dakota's rating slipped by 7 points, while Minnesota's rating decreased by 1 point.
