Wheat Prices Plummet as Traders Monitor Black Sea Diplomatic Efforts
Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) wheat futures fell for the third consecutive session on Wednesday, surpassing a four-week low. The price dropped 0.3% to $7.06-1/2 per bushel at 0238 GMT.
The decline in wheat prices is linked to diplomatic efforts aimed at easing Black Sea export disruptions caused by the war between Ukraine and Russia.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that both countries expressed interest in a limited ceasefire involving energy and grain-related targets. The truce would likely lead to an improvement in cargo movement in the Black Sea, which has been stalled due to heavy attacks on ports and ships.
The Black Sea region is a major source of wheat for top importers from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. However, continued attacks have dampened expectations for grain shipment recovery.
