Wheat Prices Surge Across Three Markets Amid Production Concerns
The wheat market is experiencing a rally on Friday, with contracts rising across three major markets. The Chicago SRW contracts are up by $0.11 to $0.125 at midday, while KC HRW futures have gained $0.16 to $0.18 so far today. MPLS spring wheat is also showing gains of $0.11 to $0.12 as the market heads into the weekend.
The upcoming release of updated production data from NASS on Wednesday may be influencing market sentiment, with analysts surveyed by Reuters predicting 1.525 billion bushels (bbu) of wheat, a decrease of 111 million bushels from July's estimate. Winter wheat is expected to decline by 9 million bushels to 981 million bushels, while spring wheat is forecast to slip by 7 million bushels to 468 million bushels.
Export sales data for the marketing year has also been released, showing a total of 7.277 million metric tons (MMT) in sales, which represents a 29% drop from the same period last year. This brings the current pace to 35% of the USDA's forecast, lagging behind the 44% pace seen at this time last year.
