Williams Acquires Momentum Midstream in $5.5 Billion Deal
Pipeline company Williams has made a significant move in the energy sector by announcing its plan to buy Momentum Midstream for $5.5 billion. The deal, which includes $3.5 billion in cash and assumed debt, as well as roughly $2 billion in Williams stock, aims to expand the company's footprint in the Haynesville shale basin.
The acquisition will give Williams access to over 4,000 miles of pipelines, more than 1 million dedicated acres, and gathering, processing, and transportation assets with a combined capacity of about 6 billion cubic feet of gas per day. This move is seen as a strategic bet on growing demand from LNG export facilities, power generation, and industrial users along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
The U.S. pipeline industry has been booming due to rising natural gas demand amid record LNG exports and higher electricity use from AI operations, cryptocurrency mining, and data centers. Williams' shares rose about 2% in extended trading after the announcement.
