Wisconsin Ag Exports Hit Record $2.13 Billion Amid Trade Uncertainty
Wisconsin's agricultural exports have reached a record-breaking $2.13 billion in the first half of this year, according to a recent report from the International Agribusiness Center.
The state has climbed to No. 10 in the country for ag exports, showing a growth of 5.42% compared to the same period last year.
Canada and Mexico are the top two export markets for Wisconsin, making up 65% of the state's total ag exports. Other key markets include South Korea, China, and Japan.
Ethanol exports to Canada rose by 71%, while cranberries increased by 66%. Corn exports to Mexico saw a significant increase of 135% and soybeans grew by 125%.
However, Wisconsin's ag export growth has been impacted by retaliatory Canadian tariffs on U.S. goods, which took effect in September. The state's agriculture sector is also concerned about the ongoing trade tensions with Canada, with Gov. Tony Evers warning that 'the trade wars could jeopardize all of the important progress we've made'.
