Wisconsin Gas Prices Hit Record High as Oil Costs Soar

Rising crude oil prices are impacting local auto shops in Wisconsin, causing an increase in the cost of synthetic motor oil. The average price of regular gas in the state is now $4.34 a gallon, up 61 cents since September 8. Diesel fuel has reached a record high of $6.19 per gallon in Outagamie County.

Costco recently raised its prices for a 10-quart case of Kirkland full synthetic oil to around $58, up from about $30 earlier. Local repair shops are also seeing higher wholesale costs, which they must pass on to customers.

Victory Garage Auto & Tire owner Ashley Grafenstein said her shop has been affected by the price increases, particularly in oil changes. 'Well, we've gotten several notifications from our wholesale providers that they've had to... You know, they're purchasing it at a higher price, so that has to be passed on to us.' Grafenstein explained.

Local shops are already seeing oil change prices rise by around $5, with some full synthetic services increasing even more. The wholesale cost increases are likely to continue rising, affecting customers' bills.
