The World Bank has approved $600 million in funding for Serbia's Gas Sector Development Program, aimed at making the country's energy supply more secure and reliable over the next decade.

The program will focus on upgrading critical gas infrastructure, including new pipelines and underground storage facilities, to strengthen Serbia's ability to move gas through its network and maintain a dependable supply.

The first phase of the program will receive $195.5 million, with €170 million allocated specifically for the Trupale-Pojate gas transmission pipeline, which is expected to improve the security and reliability of Serbia's gas supply.

Aisha Williams, Country Manager for Serbia at the World Bank Group, described natural gas as an important transition fuel in helping Serbia reduce its reliance on coal and oil products while expanding alternative energy sources.
