Worley Completes FEED Studies for Abadi LNG Project in Indonesia
Australian engineering firm Worley has completed front-end engineering design (FEED) studies for two critical infrastructure packages for the Abadi LNG project in Indonesia. The development, operated by Inpex Masela in the Masela Block, includes a multibillion-dollar investment in liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
The work marks progress in the technical planning of an energy project that is part of Indonesia's Proyek Strategis Nasional program. Abadi LNG is designed to produce about 9.5 million tonnes of LNG per year, with a natural gas production capacity estimated at around 150 million cubic feet per day.
The studies were led by Worley's team in Indonesia, with input from specialists at its Subsea Centre of Excellence in Singapore and teams based in Perth and Malaysia. Don MacLeod, Worley's President of Global Operations for Asia Pacific, said the company combined local knowledge and specialized expertise to complete the FEED studies.
The project will integrate LNG and carbon capture, with CCS playing a significant role in Abadi LNG's design. The addition of CCS aims to enable development of the Masela Block's gas reserves alongside measures intended to reduce carbon emissions.
