Wright Keeps Predicting Gas Prices, But Doesn't Want You to Trust Him

Energy Secretary Chris Wright continues to distance himself from predicting gas prices while still making forecasts. In an appearance on ABC's This Week, Wright stated that oil futures indicate a significant drop in gas prices, saying 'So trust the market, certainly don't trust my predictions.'

Wright's comments follow his previous assertions that the Trump administration's oil deal with Venezuela could take years to lower gas prices at home. Despite this, he predicted that prices would start to moderate and move down heading into the fall.

This is not Wright's first attempt at predicting gas prices. In March, just weeks after the start of the president's Iran war, he claimed there'd be a 'very good chance' that gas prices would drop below $3 a gallon by summer. By May, when asked about the possibility of Americans paying $5 a gallon for gas on Meet the Press, Wright said he couldn't predict energy prices in the short or medium term.

Fuel prices have continued to hover over $4 a gallon since the start of the president's war. The national average for a gallon of gas is currently $4.14, according to AAA, and diesel prices continue to hit record highs at $5.89 a gallon as of Sunday morning.
