WTI Crude Oil Price Slips Amid Middle East Tensions and Diplomatic Hopes
The price of WTI crude oil has declined unexpectedly despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The decrease is unusual given that Iran's supply risks and energy exports from the Gulf have been a major concern for investors.
Pakistan's interior minister reported significant progress in talks with the Iranian leadership to restore an agreement signed earlier this year. This development raises hopes of a diplomatic resolution, which could alleviate concerns about secondary sanctions threatened by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The chart analysis suggests that WTI is at risk of extending its decline. The price has been rejected at downtrend resistance running from the March highs and has completed an evening star reversal pattern, which can be a bearish sign. A break below $83.60 a barrel would add confidence to this view.
The oscillators are also showing signs of caution for the bulls. RSI (14) has broken its uptrend from the August low, and MACD is converging with the signal line.
