WTI Oil Price Slips Amid Middle East Diplomacy and Eased Sanctions Fears
The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil price continued its downward trend for the third consecutive day, trading around $80.10 per barrel during Asian hours on Wednesday.
The decline follows reports that Iran and Oman discussed establishing a joint maritime corridor in the Strait of Hormuz as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.
Technical talks between the two nations are set to continue, aiming for a permanent arrangement covering the administration of the strait, information-sharing mechanisms, traffic management, and maritime and security services.
Pakistan's army chief has backed these initiatives by visiting Tehran recently, while Qatar confirmed its ongoing mediation efforts in the region.
The US also played a role in the downward pressure on oil prices after refraining from imposing secondary sanctions on Iran's trading partners, shifting market expectations regarding Washington's foreign policy.
