WTI Oil Price Slips Below $74 as Diplomatic Momentum Builds
The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil price fell to $73.80 per barrel on Wednesday, as supply concerns eased due to diplomatic momentum surrounding a potential agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
US-Iran talks have made progress on an interim proposal to restore access to the critical maritime transit route, with both Washington and Tehran signaling tangible progress. The Strait of Hormuz is a key oil shipping lane that connects Middle Eastern producers to global markets.
The US crude oil inventories rose by 2.69 million barrels for the week ending July 31, defying market expectations of a 2 million-barrel drawdown. This increase in inventory levels has contributed to the decline in WTI prices.
Saudi Arabia is also engaging in mediated talks with Yemen's Houthi rebels via Omani channels, aiming to prevent further escalation in the adjacent Red Sea corridor. The stability of key shipping lanes remains a concern for oil markets.
