WTI Oil Surges Above $84.50 Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil prices surged past $84.50 per barrel on Thursday, driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East. The standoff has widened to include the critical Strait of Hormuz waterway, a major shipping route for crude oil.
US President Donald Trump stated that oil shipments are still moving through the passage, but left the door open for future negotiations with Iran. Regional instability deepened after the United Arab Emirates suspended all financial and economic transactions with Iran following alleged ballistic missile attacks on its territory.
Gulf producers have maintained significant export volumes by utilizing alternative transport routes and discreet shipping methods, despite mounting economic pressures and elevated geopolitical risks. According to TD Securities, further ship attacks or escalating tensions could put the energy market at an elevated risk of supply-side disruptions.
