Yaroslavl Oil Refinery Hit by Drone Attacks, Product Supply at Risk
Russia's Yaroslavl oil refinery has been significantly impacted by drone attacks on August 28th, according to reports. The refinery was forced to shut down two of its three crude distillation units as a result of the damage.
The impact on Russian refining capacity follows a pattern seen in previous campaigns: immediate losses fall on distillation throughput, and damaged refineries are unable to process crude oil. This leads to a redirection of barrels rather than destruction, pushing more Russian crude onto the export market while tightening product supply.
The key transmission channel for these effects is the product side, with diesel and naphtha cracks and export loadings from Baltic and Black Sea ports being affected. The distinction between temporary outages and cumulative damage across multiple refineries is crucial, as temporary issues tend to fade quickly, while cumulative damage can force formal cuts to export quotas and visible draws in product inventories.
